Are You Zac’s Match?

Goodman Manufacturing Blood Drive in Honor of Zac Amos

Zac Amos, 18 years old, is in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Goodman Manufacturing will host a blood drive in his honor on January 13, at which donors can sign up for the Be The Match registry.

Blood Assurance will host a community blood drive at Goodman Manufacturing on January 13 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Goodman Manufacturing is located at 1810 Wilson Parkway in Fayetteville.

The blood drive will be held in honor of Zac Amos, an 18-year old leukemia patient.

In addition to the blood drive, visitors can also register for the Be The Match registry in honor of Zac. Be The Match (formerly the National Marrow Donor Program) is a national registry that matches potential bone marrow donors with patients in need of a life-saving transplant.

Zac was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in March 2009. He went into remission shortly thereafter but the cancer returned less than six months from his last chemotherapy treatment. According to his mother, Connie Amos, Zac’s doctors believe his best hope for success is a bone marrow transplant. He is currently at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville undergoing intensive chemotherapy in order to get his leukemia into remission.

Note: If you do not live in the Fayetteville, TN area, go to your nearest Blood Assurance location and ask for a bone marrow registration packet. You could Be The Match Zac needs!

All donors will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a snack. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Visitors can also register for a flat screen LCD TV, which will be given away by Blood Assurance on February 1.

Blood donors can donate whole blood or platelets at this event. Platelets are commonly used by patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

While in previous years, donors had to provide a vial of blood to register for the Be The Match registry, donors can now sign up by providing a sample cheek swab.

Blood Assurance is a regional non-profit blood center and the only blood provider for Lincoln Medical Center.
